Wilberforce (William Wilberforce)
William Wilberforce was a British politician and social reformer who dedicated much of his life to ending the transatlantic slave trade. As a Member of Parliament, he tirelessly campaigned for abolition, using his influence and moral conviction to bring about legislative change. His efforts, along with those of abolitionists and enslaved people's advocates, led to the passage of the Slave Trade Act of 1807, which made it illegal to engage in the slave trade in the British Empire. Wilberforce's work is celebrated as a pivotal moral and political achievement in the fight against slavery and for human rights.
