wicket-keeping

Wicket-keeping is a specialized role in cricket where a player stands behind the wicket— the set of stumps— to catch the ball if the batter misses or edges it. The wicket-keeper also tries to dismiss the batter by catching them out or removing the stumps if the batter steps out of line. They need quick reflexes, good hand-eye coordination, and focus to successfully catch, stop, or stump the ball. Essentially, they act as the team's primary defender behind the stumps, playing a crucial role in both stopping scoring and dismissing opponents.
