Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS)
Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) determines a device's location by analyzing nearby Wi-Fi signals. It compares the signals’ strength and identifiers from multiple Wi-Fi access points with a pre-existing database of known locations. This method allows devices to estimate their position indoors or in areas with limited GPS reception, often with accuracy ranging from a few meters to several meters. WPS is commonly used in smartphones and navigation apps to provide location information when GPS alone isn’t effective, leveraging existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to offer reliable, real-time positioning.
