WHO's Safe Motherhood Initiative

The World Health Organization's Safe Motherhood Initiative, launched in 1987, aims to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women and new mothers worldwide. It focuses on ensuring women have access to quality prenatal, childbirth, and postpartum care, as well as family planning services. The goal is to reduce maternal deaths and complications caused by pregnancy and childbirth, which remain a significant health challenge in many parts of the world. By strengthening healthcare systems, promoting education, and ensuring equitable access to services, the initiative seeks to support safe, healthy pregnancies and sustainable motherhood.
