Whig and Tory parties
The Whig and Tory parties were two dominant political groups in Britain from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The Tories generally supported the monarchy, aristocracy, and traditional institutions, favoring stability and hierarchical authority. The Whigs advocated for parliamentary power, constitutional monarchy, and reforms that expanded political participation. Over time, these groups evolved into the modern Conservative (Tory) and Liberal (Whig) parties. Their rivalry shaped British politics, balancing the interests of monarchy and aristocracy with those advocating for parliamentary rights and progressive change.
