WHI Memory Study
The WHI (Women's Health Initiative) Memory Study was a research effort to determine if hormone therapy could prevent or delay cognitive decline and dementia in postmenopausal women. Participants were women aged 65 and older, randomly assigned to receive hormone therapy or a placebo. The study found that hormone therapy did not improve cognitive function and was associated with increased risks, such as stroke. The results suggest hormone therapy should not be used solely for preventing memory loss or dementia, emphasizing individual risks and benefits in postmenopausal treatment decisions.
