Wheel throwing
Wheel throwing is a pottery technique where a craftsperson shapes clay on a spinning wheel. The wheel spins steadily while the artist uses their hands to form the clay into vessels like bowls or cups, applying gentle pressure to refine the shape. This method allows for symmetrical, smooth-sided ceramics with precise dimensions. Once the desired form is achieved, the piece is carefully removed from the wheel and dried before firing in a kiln. Wheel throwing combines skill and artistry, resulting in functional and decorative ceramic wares with consistent, refined shapes.
