WGS 84
WGS 84, or World Geodetic System 1984, is a global reference system for mapping and navigation. It defines a coordinate system using latitude and longitude, allowing precise location identification anywhere on Earth. WGS 84 also includes a detailed model of the Earth’s shape and size, known as a geoid. This system is widely used in GPS technology, helping devices determine exact positions, for navigation, and in mapping applications. Essentially, WGS 84 provides the standard framework that underpins our modern geographic data and location services.
