wetland types
Wetlands are areas where water covers the land or is present near the surface for most of the year, creating unique ecosystems. Types include marshes, which are dominated by grasses and reeds; swamps, characterized by woody plants and trees; and bogs and fens, which are waterlogged and often nutrient-poor, with mosses and specialized plants. Wetlands serve as natural filters, help control floods, support diverse wildlife, and store carbon. They can be freshwater or saltwater, and each type offers different habitats and ecological benefits.
