Wet'suwet'en Nation

The Wet'suwet'en Nation is a First Nations Indigenous group in northern British Columbia, Canada. It comprises five clans with their own hereditary leaders, known as "clans" or "houses," who maintain traditional stewardship of their ancestral lands. The Wet'suwet'en people have historically protected their territory from resource development they believe threatens their culture and environment. Recent conflicts, including protests and railway blockades, have arisen over pipeline projects on their land, raising debates about Indigenous rights, land sovereignty, and proper consultation with indigenous communities in development decisions.
