West Saharan Independence Movement
The West Saharan Independence Movement is a political effort by the Sahrawi people to establish an independent country in Western Sahara, a region in North Africa. Western Sahara was a Spanish colony until 1975, after which Morocco and Mauritania claimed parts of it. The Sahrawi Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), declared by the Polisario Front, a liberation movement, seeks self-determination and independence for Western Sahara. The region remains disputed, with ongoing conflict and negotiations, reflecting broader struggles over sovereignty, colonial legacy, and regional stability.
