West Nile Virus (WNV)

West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) or meningitis in humans. It’s primarily transmitted to people through bites from infected mosquitoes, which often pick up the virus from infected birds. Most people who contract WNV experience mild symptoms, like fever and headaches, or none at all. However, some may develop severe neurological illnesses, especially the elderly or those with weakened immune systems. There is no specific treatment for WNV, so prevention focuses on avoiding mosquito bites and controlling mosquito populations.
