West Indian Federation
The West Indies Federation was a short-lived political union formed in 1958, comprising several Caribbean islands, mainly British colonies, aiming to create a single independent nation. It sought to promote unity, economic cooperation, and self-governance across the islands. However, differences among members and economic challenges led to its dissolution in 1962. The federation's formation was an important step toward independence, influencing future national movements and regional cooperation in the Caribbean. It laid the groundwork for individual islands to pursue independence or greater autonomy while fostering regional identity.
