Wendish Crusade

The Wendish Crusade (also called the Slav Crusade) took place in 1147 during the broader series of medieval military campaigns called the Crusades. It was initiated by Western Christians, mainly German and Danish forces, to conquer and Christianize the pagan Slavic peoples known as the Wends in eastern Europe. The crusade aimed to suppress their traditional beliefs, secure territorial control, and extend Christian influence. While some military success was achieved, it also complicated regional politics and highlighted the ongoing struggle between Christian expansion and local cultures. The Wendish Crusade reflects the broader Christian effort to spread their faith through military means during the Middle Ages.
