Weizmann–Balfour agreement

The Weizmann-Balfour Agreement was a secret 1917 understanding between Chaim Weizmann, a Zionist leader, and British politician Arthur Balfour. It expressed the British government’s support for establishing a Jewish homeland in Palestine, then part of the Ottoman Empire. The agreement promised that Britain would work to facilitate this goal, in exchange for Zionist support for Britain’s war efforts during World War I. This agreement laid the groundwork for the later official British declaration of support for a Jewish homeland, known as the Balfour Declaration, influencing the future formation of Israel.
