Wegener's theory
Wegener's theory, known as continental drift, proposed that Earth's continents were once connected as a single landmass called Pangaea. Over millions of years, this supercontinent broke apart, and the continents drifted to their current positions. Wegener based his ideas on evidence like similar fossils found on different continents, matching rock formations, and the shapes of coastlines that seem to fit together. Although initially controversial, this theory was a crucial step toward the development of plate tectonics, which now explains how Earth's crust moves and causes earthquakes, volcanoes, and the shifting of continents.
