weak anthropic principle

The weak anthropic principle suggests that the universe's laws and constants appear fine-tuned for life because only in such a universe could observers like us exist to notice them. In other words, we observe the universe as it is because if it were different, we wouldn't be here to observe it. It doesn't claim the universe was purposefully designed for us but explains that our existence constrains the conditions we can observe, so our universe's properties are compatible with life simply because only such a universe allows conscious beings to exist and question it.
