Watergate hearings

The Watergate hearings were a series of Congressional investigations in the mid-1970s into the Watergate scandal, where members of President Nixon’s administration were involved in illegal activities, including a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. These hearings uncovered widespread abuse of power, illegal cover-ups, and efforts to obstruct justice. They revealed that President Nixon may have been involved in or aware of the misconduct. The hearings ultimately led to Nixon’s resignation in 1974, making him the first U.S. president to do so, and resulted in greater public awareness of political corruption and the importance of checks on executive power.
