Water-related disasters

Water-related disasters include events where water causes harm to people, property, or the environment. Examples are floods, which occur when rivers overflow or heavy rains overwhelm drainage systems; tsunamis, huge ocean waves triggered by undersea earthquakes; and storm surges from hurricanes that flood coastal areas. Droughts, prolonged periods without enough rain, can also cause severe damage by affecting water supply and agriculture. These disasters can lead to loss of life, destruction of homes, and economic setbacks. Preparedness, early warning systems, and effective management are essential to minimize their impact.
