Water Moderated Reactor

A Water Moderated Reactor uses ordinary water to control and sustain a nuclear chain reaction. Inside the reactor, water slows down neutrons released by nuclear fuel, increasing the chances of further reactions. This process, called moderation, helps maintain a steady and controlled energy release. The same water also acts as a coolant, transferring heat away from the reactor core to generate electricity. Commonly used in many nuclear power plants, water moderation ensures safety and efficiency by maintaining proper reaction rates and preventing the reactor from overheating.
