WATCHMAN Device
The WATCHMAN device is a small, implantable device designed to prevent strokes in people with atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart condition that increases clot risk. It is placed during a minimally invasive procedure into the left atrial appendage, a small pouch in the heart where blood clots often form in AFib patients. By sealing this area, the device reduces the chance of clots entering the bloodstream and causing a stroke. It offers an alternative to long-term blood thinners for eligible patients, providing protection while minimizing bleeding risks associated with medication.
