Wat Phou
Wat Phou is an ancient Hindu temple complex located in southern Laos, dating back to around the 5th to 15th centuries. It was a major religious center and a key part of the Khmer Empire, notably aligned with Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The site features impressive stone ruins, including terraced hills, carvings, and a sanctuary dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Surrounded by lush jungle and rice fields, Wat Phou offers insights into early Southeast Asian civilization, religion, and architecture. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural significance and well-preserved archaeological remains.
