Wastegate

A wastegate is a valve used in turbocharged engines to control the boost pressure generated by the turbocharger. It diverts excess exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel when the desired pressure is reached, preventing over-boosting that could damage the engine. When boost pressure is low, the wastegate remains closed, allowing full exhaust flow to power the turbo. As pressure builds, the wastegate opens, venting gases and maintaining optimal performance and safety. It ensures the engine runs efficiently and reliably by regulating the amount of boost produced.
