WASP (Wide Angle Search for Planets)

WASP (Wide Angle Search for Planets) is an astronomical project that looks for planets outside our solar system, called exoplanets, by monitoring many stars simultaneously. It uses wide-angle cameras to detect tiny dips in a star’s brightness, which indicate a planet passing in front of it—a method known as the transit technique. By observing these periodic dips, WASP can identify potential exoplanets and help scientists learn about their sizes and orbits. The project has contributed significantly to the discovery of new planets, expanding our understanding of the universe's diversity of planetary systems.
