War of the Confederation

The War of the Confederation (1836–1839) was a conflict between Chile and Peru against the Bolivia-led Confederation of Chile and Peru. The Confederation was an attempt to unify the two countries under a single political and economic system, led by Chilean politician Andrés de Santa Cruz. Chile and Peru viewed this as a threat to regional stability and their own interests, leading them to form coalitions to oppose it. The war ended with the defeat of the Confederation, leading to its dissolution and shaping future South American politics and borders.
