War of Java

The Java War was a military conflict in 1827 between the Principality of Surakarta and the Sultanate of Yogyakarta on the island of Java. It arose from tensions over political, territorial, and succession disputes following the decline of the Mataram Sultanate. Surakarta, backed by external Dutch influence, aimed to expand its power, while Yogyakarta sought to maintain its independence. The conflict resulted in battles that affected local governance and alliances, highlighting the complex interplay between local Javanese kingdoms and colonial powers during that period.
