War of Continuation

The War of Continuation (1948–1949) was a conflict between Finland and the Soviet Union during the larger context of World War II. After fighting alongside Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union in the earlier Winter War, Finland aimed to regain territories lost earlier. When the Soviet Union launched a new offensive, Finland resisted fiercely. The war ended with the signing of the Moscow Armistice, resulting in Finland maintaining independence but ceding some territory to the Soviets and accepting certain military restrictions. It is called the War of Continuation because Finland viewed it as a continuation of their Winter War efforts to defend their sovereignty.
