War in Kafiristan (1890)
The War in Kafiristan (1890) was a conflict between British forces and local tribes in what is now northeastern Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan. The British aimed to establish control over the remote and rugged region of Kafiristan, inhabited by tribal groups resistant to outside authority. After military campaigns, the tribes were subdued, and the region was incorporated into British India. Subsequently, the area underwent cultural and religious transformations, including the forced conversion of the indigenous inhabitants from pagan beliefs to Islam. The war marked British efforts to expand their influence in the region and secure their northern frontier.
