Walther's Law
Walther's Law states that the vertical layering of sedimentary rocks reflects the environments that exist next to each other at the same time. Essentially, it means that if you see different types of layers stacked on top of each other, those layers were originally formed side-by-side in a continuous depositional environment, like different parts of a shoreline or delta. This law helps geologists interpret ancient environments and understand how different habitats were connected in the past, by studying the spatial arrangement of rock layers.
