Wallerstein's research
Immanuel Wallerstein's research focuses on understanding global inequalities and how world economies are interconnected. He developed the World-Systems Theory, which divides the world into core, periphery, and semi-periphery countries. Core countries are wealthier and control much of the world's resources, while peripheral countries are poorer and supply raw materials. Semi-periphery nations are intermediate. Wallerstein examined how historical economic systems, like capitalism, create and sustain these disparities through global trade, labor, and political structures, highlighting that inequality is a product of long-standing, interconnected global processes rather than isolated national issues.
