Wallenstein's assassination
Wallenstein's assassination occurred in 1634 during the Thirty Years' War. Albrecht von Wallenstein was a powerful general for the Catholic Holy Roman Emperor but was increasingly seen as a threat due to his independent actions and growing influence. The Emperor and his advisors feared Wallenstein might rebel or negotiate peace with enemies. To prevent this, they secretly ordered his murder. On February 25, 1634, a group of soldiers, acting on these orders, ambushed and killed Wallenstein in his estate. His death marked a significant turning point in the war, consolidating imperial control.
