Wallace's demarcation line
Wallace's demarcation line refers to the boundary in the brain's visual system that separates the ventral stream ("what" pathway) from the dorsal stream ("where/how" pathway). This line, running approximately from the occipital lobe to the inferior parietal lobe, distinguishes areas involved in recognizing objects, shapes, and colors (ventral) from those processing spatial awareness, movement, and guidance of actions (dorsal). It helps explain how the brain organizes visual information for different functions—identifying objects versus interacting with our environment.
