Walk-and-Turn Test

The Walk-and-Turn Test is a field sobriety exercise used by law enforcement to assess a person's balance, coordination, and ability to follow directions, which can indicate impairment from alcohol or drugs. The person is asked to stand heel-to-toe on a line, take a series of steps (walking nine steps, turning, and returning), while the officer observes for indicators of impairment such as stumbling, improper step, or failing to count aloud. It helps officers evaluate whether someone might be under the influence, based solely on physical cues during the test.
