Wakefield study on vaccines
The Wakefield study, published in 1998 by Andrew Wakefield, claimed that the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella) caused autism. However, later investigations revealed the study was flawed, with data manipulated and ethical breaches. It involved only a small, unrepresentative sample, lacked scientific rigor, and was retracted in 2010. Extensive research since then has shown no link between the vaccine and autism. Wakefield's study significantly contributed to vaccine hesitancy, but its scientific errors have been discredited, reaffirming the safety and importance of standard vaccinations.
