Wage Compression

Wage compression occurs when the pay differences between employees with different levels of experience, skills, or responsibilities become smaller than usual. This often happens when starting salaries are increased or raises are not proportional to position changes, making it harder to attract or retain highly experienced staff. Essentially, it reduces the salary gap that normally encourages employee growth and performance, potentially leading to decreased motivation and challenges in differentiating roles based on compensation.
