WAC (Women's Army Corps)

The Women's Army Corps (WAC) was a branch of the United States Army established during World War II in 1942, allowing women to serve in non-combat roles. It enabled women to perform administrative, medical, clerical, and technical tasks, freeing up male soldiers for combat. The WAC was part of the broader effort to expand military capacity and integrate women into national defense. It operated until 1978, when women could serve in integrated units; afterward, the WAC was disbanded and integrated into the regular Army. The WAC played a significant role in advancing women's participation in the military.
