VZV Vaccine
The VZV vaccine, also known as the varicella or chickenpox vaccine, protects against the varicella-zoster virus that causes chickenpox. It contains a weakened form of the virus, prompting the immune system to develop protection without causing full-blown illness. The vaccine is usually given in two doses in childhood and significantly reduces the risk of chickenpox, its complications, and helps prevent shingles later in life. It is safe and effective, and widespread vaccination has decreased chickenpox cases globally.
