Vostok-1 (space mission)
Vostok-1 was the first human spaceflight, launched by the Soviet Union on April 12, 1961. The mission carried cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin into orbit around Earth, making him the first person to do so. The spacecraft completed one orbit, lasting about 108 minutes, and safely returned with Gagarin ejected parachuting to the ground. The mission demonstrated that humans could survive and operate in space, marking a historic milestone in space exploration and opening the way for future human spaceflight programs.
