VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range)

VOR, or VHF Omnidirectional Range, is a navigation system used by aircraft to determine their position and track their heading. It works by emitting radio signals in all directions from ground-based stations. An aircraft’s onboard receiver picks up these signals and compares the timing and direction of the signals to determine its location relative to the station. This information helps pilots navigate accurately along predefined routes. VOR is a reliable, ground-based navigation aid that remains in use worldwide, especially in navigation through controlled airspace and in areas where GPS signals may be unreliable.
