Volunteer Force

The Volunteer Force was a part-time military reserve in Britain, formed in the 19th century to supplement the regular army. Composed of civilians who volunteered to train and serve when needed, it allowed for a flexible defense force without full-time soldiers. Members often had other jobs but received military training and could be called upon during emergencies or wars. The Volunteer Force helped boost national defense, fostered local pride, and contributed to the development of organized reserve military units before eventually evolving into the Territorial Army.
