Volatiles

Volatiles are substances that easily evaporate or turn into gas at relatively low temperatures. In the context of geology and volcanology, they are often gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, and sulfur dioxide stored within or emitted by volcanoes. These gases influence volcanic activity, eruptions, and the behavior of magma. Because they escape more readily than other mineral components, volatiles play a key role in driving explosive eruptions and shaping volcanic phenomena. Understanding volatiles helps scientists predict eruptions and study the composition of Earth's interior.
