Vocal fry

Vocal fry is a low, creaky sound produced by loosely vibrating the vocal cords at a very slow rate, often heard at the end of sentences or in casual speech. It creates a distinctive down-slurred, gravelly tone that sounds like a series of popping or rattling noises. Vocal fry naturally occurs in speech but can be exaggerated through intentional speaking styles. While it’s a normal vocal register, excessive use may strain the voice or be perceived differently depending on context. It is common among younger speakers and certain accents, and understanding its nuances helps in effective communication.
