Vkhutemas (Higher Artistic and Technical Studios)
Vkhutemas (Higher Artistic and Technical Studios) was a Russian art and design school active from 1920 to 1930, founded to foster innovative creative skills aligned with the ideals of the Soviet Union. It emphasized a multidisciplinary approach, integrating fine arts, craftsmanship, and technical education, aiming to modernize art and support industrial development. Influenced by Constructivism and avant-garde movements, Vkhutemas sought to bridge artistic experimentation with practical technology, producing architects, designers, and artists who contributed to Soviet visual culture and architecture. Its philosophy prioritized functionalism, experimentation, and the social role of art in building a new society.
