visual cliff experiment
The visual cliff experiment demonstrates that depth perception develops early in infants. It involves a glass-covered table with a patterned checkerboard on one side and an apparent drop-off on the other, created by a visual illusion. Infants are encouraged to crawl across the table. Most refuse to cross the "cliff," indicating they can perceive depth and understand the danger. This experiment shows that depth perception is, at least in part, innate or develops early, helping infants avoid potentially harmful falls.
