Vistula Uprising
The Vistula Uprising was a Polish military effort in August 1944 against German forces during World War II. Polish resistance fighters aimed to seize control of the Vistula River region, especially around Warsaw, to free their territory from German occupation before the Soviet Red Army arrived. Although it was a brave and determined act, the uprising was poorly coordinated and lacked sufficient support, leading to heavy casualties and limited territorial gains. It was a significant event in Poland’s struggle for independence, reflecting both resistance against Nazi occupation and the complex geopolitical tensions of the time.
