Visigothic Code

The Visigothic Code, also known as the Lex Visigothorum, was a set of laws governing the Visigothic people in what is now Spain and parts of France from the 5th to the 8th centuries. Established by King Reccared I in the late 6th century, it aimed to unify the legal systems of the Visigoths and the Roman inhabitants. The Code covered various aspects of daily life, including property rights, marriage, and criminal justice. It reflected a blend of Roman legal traditions and Germanic customs, helping to shape medieval European law and influence later legal systems.
