Virginia Plan

The Virginia Plan was a proposal in the late 1700s to create a stronger national government for the United States. It suggested a government with three branches—legislative, executive, and judicial—and called for a new system of representation where states with larger populations would have more influence, especially in Congress. This plan aimed to balance power more fairly among states, especially larger ones, and was a key starting point in shaping the U.S. Constitution. It contrasted with other plans by emphasizing proportional representation, shaping debates that led to the current system of government.
