Viral Immunology

Viral immunology studies how our immune system recognizes and fights viruses, which are tiny infectious agents that invade cells to reproduce. When a virus enters the body, immune cells detect it as foreign and activate responses such as producing antibodies—proteins that identify and neutralize the virus. Other immune cells, like T cells, help destroy infected cells. Vaccines train the immune system to recognize specific viruses, providing protection. Understanding viral immunology helps develop better treatments and vaccines, ultimately controlling or preventing viral infections and their diseases.
