VIPomas

VIPomas are rare tumors that develop in the pancreas and produce excessive amounts of a hormone called vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). This overproduction can lead to severe watery diarrhea, dehydration, low potassium levels, and other metabolic disturbances. VIPomas are part of a group of tumors known as pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. Diagnosis involves imaging tests and hormone level assessments. Treatment typically includes surgical removal of the tumor and medications to control symptoms and hormone secretion. Although rare, early detection and management can improve outcomes and quality of life for affected individuals.
