Vinovia
Vinovia was an ancient Roman fort located in northern England, near modern-day Bishop Auckland. Built around the 1st century AD, it served as a military frontier outpost on Hadrian's Wall, which marked the northern boundary of the Roman Empire in Britain. The fort provided strategic defense, housed Roman soldiers, and supported infrastructure like roads connecting it to other Roman sites. Today, Vinovia is an important archaeological site revealing insights into Roman military life, with visible remains of walls, buildings, and archaeological finds that help us understand Roman Britain’s history and frontier defenses.
